A 2.5-inch square has about 11% less area than a 3.5 × 2-inch standard card, in a balanced format — every side is equal, every margin is symmetrical. The shape works naturally with centered designs, circular logos, QR codes, and photography that benefits from a 1:1 aspect ratio.
Square cards are compact enough to fit in a pocket or wallet but distinct enough to stand out in a card holder or on a desk. The format signals intentionality — you chose this shape on purpose, which tells people you think about details.
The 2.5" × 2.5" size is the standard square format used across the industry. It provides enough surface area for essential contact information while maintaining the compact feel that makes the shape memorable.

How to choose between standard, square, circle, and custom shapes.
Read the guide →Square business cards are 2.5 × 2.5 inches (63.5 × 63.5 mm), a symmetric alternative to the 3.5 × 2 inch rectangle. Ours print full colour on both sides on 16pt silk, 20pt soft-touch, 32pt uncoated or 32pt triplex black core, from $84 for 25, shipping in 3–4 business days after proof approval. Free proof included.
A square business card is 2.5 × 2.5 inches (63.5 × 63.5 mm). Those are the finished dimensions; your file is 2.75 × 2.75 inches with bleed.

Three bonded layers (white, black, white) at 32pt, so a thin black line runs around every edge. It's double the thickness of a 16pt card, it reads as deliberate the moment it's turned, and it ships on the same fast line as silk, 3–4 business days after proof approval.
From $126 for 500
Print only: no spot UV or rounded corners on triplex.

16pt silk laminate with a soft satin sheen: sharp colour, scuff-resistant, and the least you can spend on a square and still be proud of it. Add rounded corners, or spot UV from 500 cards.

A 2.5-inch square is a little smaller than a 3-inch sticky note, and it sits centred in the palm instead of overhanging the fingers the way a rectangle does. On 16pt silk it's light and smooth, with a faint satin sheen under the thumb. On 20pt soft-touch the surface goes velvety and matte, close to the feel of a peach skin. At 32pt, about the thickness of a credit card (roughly 0.8 mm), it stops flexing: you tap it on a table and it lands flat. Triplex adds the detail people turn over to look at, a thin black line around all four edges.
Square is the most forgiving shape to order and the easiest to get wrong in design. Here's what we catch at proof.
A 2.5-inch square has about 11% less surface than a 3.5 × 2 inch card, and once you keep 1/8 inch clear of every edge you're designing on 2.25 inches. Cramming a full rectangular layout in makes everything tiny.
Our fix: the mark goes centred on the front, the details go on the back, and our designer flags anything set below a readable size before you approve.
A square shows cutting drift more than any other shape, because the eye compares all four margins at once. A hairline frame 1/16 inch from the edge will look lopsided on some cards in the box.
Our fix: we either run the border off the edge (bleed) or bring it at least 3/16 inch inside, and we tell you which on your proof.
Print a black square on 16pt silk and the cut edge shows the white paper core.
Our fix: if the edge matters, choose 32pt triplex (its black core is the point) or go to our Studio for paper that's dark all the way through.

A velvet lamination that absorbs light and feels soft under the thumb. It's the best ground for spot UV, because the gloss reads against the matte.
Can't: be embossed. It also starts at 100 cards.
soft-touch business cards →
Bright white, double-thick and natural, with a slight tooth. You can write on it with a pen, and it lands flat when you tap it on a table.
Can't: take spot UV or rounded corners on this Standard line.
thick business cards →
Three bonded sheets, white/black/white, so every edge shows a fine black stripe. No edge treatment needed.
Can't: take spot UV or rounded corners on our fastest line; foil and painted edges are Custom builds.

A 1/4 inch radius on all four corners turns the square into a soft tile, and corners don't dog-ear in a pocket. Available on silk and soft-touch, +$26 at 25.
Can't: combine with 32pt uncoated or triplex on this line.
rounded corner business cards →
A clear gloss coating printed only where you choose, so a logo flashes when the card tilts. On silk and soft-touch, from 500 cards (+$31 at 500).
Can't: go on the 32pt uncoated or triplex papers on this fast line (spot UV on cotton is a Custom build), and very fine lines fill in (keep strokes above 0.3 mm).

How proofing works →Print Peppermint is a specialty print studio founded by Austin Terrill. It makes foil, letterpress, metal, plastic, NFC and cotton cards, wedding stationery and packaging, proofed by a person.
The common square business card is 2.5 × 2.5 inches (63.5 × 63.5 mm), and that's the size we print on our fast line. Set your file at 2.75 × 2.75 inches so the background runs 1/8 inch past the cut, and keep text 1/8 inch inside it. For 2-inch or 3-inch squares, see the custom die-cut option.
Yes, when your design is built around a centred mark, a monogram, a photo or a QR code, and you can move the contact details to the back. They're less ideal if you need a long list of phone numbers and addresses on one side, or if your clients keep cards in rectangular holders. A 2.5-inch square sits about 3/8 inch taller than a credit-card slot.
On 16pt silk, 25 cards are $84 and 250 are $107. On 20pt soft-touch, 250 are $121. On 32pt uncoated, 250 are $165. On 32pt triplex black core, 500 are $126. Every price includes full colour on both sides, a free proof and free continental US shipping.
Our fast line ships in 3–4 business days after you approve your proof, then 1–3 days by UPS Ground within the US. Studio builds (cotton, foil, other square sizes) take about 3 weeks after proof approval. These are estimates; if you have a date, tell us before you order.
Our fast line prints 2.5 × 2.5 inch squares only. A 2-inch or 3-inch square, or any square up to 3.5 inches, is made as a custom die cut in our Studio, from $215 for 250 on 16pt silk, in about 3 weeks.
On the fast line, 2.5 inches. Smaller squares are a custom die cut. Below about 2 inches, the safe area gets too small for readable contact details, so we'd suggest a logo-only front.
Yes, on 16pt silk and 20pt soft-touch. The corners are cut to a 1/4 inch radius on all four sides, from +$26 at 25 cards. Rounded corners aren't available on the 32pt uncoated or triplex options on this line.
They fit in most wallets, but a 2.5-inch square stands about 3/8 inch taller than a credit-card slot and won't sit flush in standard 3.5 × 2 inch holders. If that matters, a 2-inch custom square or a standard rectangle fits better.
Yes, on silk or soft-touch, from 500 cards. Spot UV is a clear gloss coating printed only where you choose. It isn't offered on the 32pt uncoated or triplex papers on this fast line.
On thin stock and price alone, the big online printers are cheaper. What you get here: a designer checks every file by hand before it prints, stocks go up to 32pt on the fast line, and our Studio can cut your square from cotton with a foil mark. If the card has to feel substantial in the hand, that's the case for us.
We're an online studio, so there's no counter to walk into, but shipping is free within the continental US (UPS Ground, 1–3 days once your cards ship, 3–4 business days after proof approval). If you'd like to feel the papers first, order the sample pack.
A PDF, AI, PSD or EPS in CMYK at 300 dpi, sized 2.75 × 2.75 inches with 0.125 inch bleed on every side. Upload it after checkout. If your file isn't set up for a square, our designers can rebuild it, and you'll see a proof before anything prints.
